USAID funds rebuilding of schools in KP

An agreement for a new USAID assistance worth $25 million has been signed between the USAID and the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for reconstruction of schools.
Under the agreement, the schools damaged because of the devastating floods and terrorism will be reconstructed in various districts of the province, including Malakand division.
Talking to VOA, an official of the USAID Education Department, Fazal Rabbi, said that an agreement to provide $25 million for the construction of schools in Malakand division and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been signed by the USAID and the KP government.
Besides Malakand division, the other districts include Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, DI Khan, Tank and Shangla.
He said reconstruction work is in progress on schools damaged due to floods and terrorism in Malakand division with an earlier USAID assistance worth $35m. He said that a new plan of action had been made for the early completion of the reconstruction work of the damaged schools.
He hoped the reconstruction work on these schools in Malakand division and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be completed as early as possible.
Talking to VOA, spokesman for Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Adnan Khan, also said that work was in progress on at least 122 schools damaged because of terrorism in Malakand division.
He said 29 of 122 schools had already been reconstructed and classes started while 46 schools were likely to be handed over to the Education Department after completion of reconstruction work in December this year. Reconstruction work on the remaining 45 schools had also been accelerated, he added.
