Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaquat Baloch, has appealed to the Chief Justice to take suo moto notice of India’s water aggression against Pakistan and set up a judicial commission to probe into elements assisting India in construction of disputed water reservoirs.
In a statement here, he said that India’s water aggression had caused immeasurable harm to Pakistan, reducing river water availability while the rulers were acting as silent spectators.
He stressed that after the Judicial Commission’s report, the issue should be moved before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to check New Delhi’s plans to destroy agriculture and the economy in this country.
The JI Secretary General said that India had recently completed another disputed hydro electricity project on the river Indus. He said that the Pakistan’s government had earlier decided to take up the matter before the ICJ but had now changed its mind. He said that the construction of the latest hydro project was a clear violation of the Indus Water Treaty, but Pakistani authorities remained asleep while India was busy building the project. Baloch said there was a secret reason for not taking up the matter before ICJ. He said that the general impression was that some ex-technocrats in the Indus Water Commission, Foreign Ministry, and Water and Power Ministry had secretly supported India in this regard, which is why the enquiry report into the matter had not been made public.
Baloch said that any support to India in any matter was tantamount to treachery. A thorough enquiry must be held against all officials blamed in the matter. At the same time, those deciding not to take up the issue with ICJ should be asked to explain their conduct.
