The government is fully committed to protecting the life and property of all law-abiding citizens and all available resources are being utilised for the purpose, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.
“Latest weapons and modern training is also being imparted to the police force,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review law and order in the province.
Inspector General of Police Haji Habibur Rehman gave a briefing on the law and order and the measures taken for the eradication of crimes.
The chief minister said with the cooperation of the Turkish police, modern training courses were being conducted for the capacity-building of Punjab Police.
He directed the IG to ensure strict security measures for mosques and Imam Barghas during Ramadan, adding that strict security arrangements should also be made in Sastay Ramazan Bazaars so that citizens could carry out shopping without any fear.
Shahbaz ordered that security be beefed up in markets and bazaars, adding that “terrorism and lawlessness have caused irreparable loss to national economy”.
The Punjab chief minister said provision of justice to the masses was the priority of the government and criminal justice system would have to be improved for the purpose.
He said there was a need to improve the prosecution system and maintain close and effective coordination between the departments concerned for the swift disposal of cases.
He said 100 model police stations were being set up in the province where the entire process, from registration of FIRs to challans, would be expeditiously completed.
IG Rehman informed the meeting that 44,866 proclaimed offenders had been arrested during the last five months while effective action was being taken against gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes due to which the crime rate in the province had declined.
