Stephanie Rice, a triple gold medallist in Beijing four years ago, is battling a shoulder injury as she builds up for the London Olympics.
The 24-year-old Rice holds the 400m women’s individual medley world record and collected gold four years ago in her signature event as well as the 200m individual medley and in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
But coach Michael Bohl said Friday that the injury remains a concern and has to be managed in training.
“She’s had problems with the shoulder and the shoulder has been flaring up from time to time,” said Bohl.
“It’s not bad all the time, but everytime she does something pretty hard, it tends to tighten up and she has to go easy for a day or two.
“So it’s just really adjusting and manipulating her training around to fit in with the shoulder problem.”
