Torrential rain and wind storms lashed both Daska and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot on Friday, uprooting dozens of trees that blocked several main roads, including Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road, Sialkot-Pasrur Road, Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad Road and Pasrur-Narowal Road. The heavy rain also badly affected the electricity and communication systems due to which the supply of electricity remained suspended for several hours in urban and rural areas of both tehsils. Heat-stricken people enjoyed the pleasant weather, which remained overcast coupled with loud thunder. Rain inundated all low-lying urban and rural areas of the region, paralyzing routine life. The torrential rain also badly exposed the negligence of the Daska TMA due to which all main city roads including Kutchery Road, College Road, Nisbat Road, Pasrur Road, Awami Road, Sambrial Road, Jamkey Road, Muhallah Wahab Masjid, Muhammadpura, Afshan Road, Stadium Road, Wazirabad Road, congested Main Bazaar Daska City, Subedar Bazaar, Thathiyaraan Bazaar and all surrounding residential, industrial and commercial areas. On the other hand, paddy growers welcomed the rain, calling it “most awaited and most conducive” for the under-cultivation paddy crop in both tehsils.
