The Tehsil level competitions have been placed at number three in the flow chart of the Punjab Sports and Youth Festival 2012 with having 18 sports events for general public and 12 for secondary schools out of the total of 90 events to be contested among eight sectors of society. Director General Sports Board Punjab Usman Anwar said that a total amount of Rs 1,015,600 will be disbursed among the winners of different competitions and sports contests at Tehsil level, which will start after the Neighboourhood and village and Union Council levels conclude.
The Punjab Sports and Youth Festival 2012 will roll into action right after Eid throughout the province with an aim to give healthy activity to people of all walks of life. Giving details of the Tehsil level competitions, Usman informed that the competitions have been divided into two sector, General Public and Education, which are further sub-divided in a group of five sectors for general public that includes individual, family, rural, team and sports while the education sector have three sub-sectors of Elementary Schools, Secondary Schools and Sports for Secondary Schools.
He said that in general public sports competitions will be held in arm wrestling, athletics, badminton, basketball, billiard and snooker, chess, cricket (tape ball), football, tug of war, volleyball, bodybuilding, hockey, weightlifting, cricket (hardball), kabaddi, mat wrestling, mud wrestling and table tennis.
Elaborating the sectors, Usman said that competitions like cooking, horticulture, mushaira, naatkhani, pets competitions, photography, qirat, songs/millinaghme/poetry etc, debates, dress designing/stitching, handicraft, painting, family dressing, kitchen gardening, healthy baby, drama/short film, street art, street art theatre will be held among general public while bull race, dog race, tippling/pigeon flying, bull cart race, donkey cart race, horse race, best agriculture and livestock produce are the events for rural sector, he added.
Usman giving details of competitions for education sector informed that elementary schools students will compete in debate, essay writing, millinaghme, naatkhani, painting and qirat and similarly, the students of secondary school would contest in events like cooking, cultural models, debate, dress show, essay writing, handicraft, millinaghme, naatkhani, painting, qirat and science models. The real competitions of skills, he said, would be seen among the students in sports like arm wrestling, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket (both tape ball and hardball), football, hockey table tennis, tug of war and volleyball. The director general sports Punjab said that competitions in all these events will be held among the sports and youth development councils of each union council. Inter-union council matches and competitions will be held between the union councils of each tehsil while the matches and competitions will also be held between the participating teams and individuals at the same level of Tehsil Council.
