After a neck-and-neck contest, Abdul Qadir Gilani, the PPP candidate and son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, has won the by-elections held in Multan’s NA 151.
According to unofficial results, Abdul Qadir Gilani led the race with 64628 votes while Sikandar Bosan was the runner up with 60532, with the former winning the lead of 4062 votes.
The National Assembly seat vacated by former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after Supreme Court has disqualified him for defying its order to write a letter to Swiss authorities against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Earlier, rigging reports were also received from various polling stations where people accused presiding officers of stamping the ballot papers.
Ten candidates, nine of them independent, were contesting the bye-election in Multan constituency.
The competition was between Abdul Qadir Gilani and Malik Shaukat Hayat Boson.
Gilani is contesting election on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ticket while Boson is backed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Islam (PTI).
Shaukat is the younger brother of former federal minister and leader Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Sikandar Hayat Boson who had defeated former PM Gilani in past general election as PML-N candidate with 4000 voters.
N-League did not announce to field its candidate for by-election in NA-15 as Boson is silently backed by PTI.
There are at least 307871 registered voters in the constituency; of them, 167,091 are male and 140,080 are women. A total of 245 polling stations were set up for Thursday’s elections where voters cast their votes.

  1. The people of NA 151 Multan has given a strong reply to the courts, media & anti PPP forces by their votes. Now all those who r against PPP should accept their reply as it is their right not urs.

  9. Big day for Yousuf Gillani and his son on this tremendous victory. PPP once-again has nailed his opponents who were joined together (reminds me of IJI) but PPP has the habit of knocking-out its opponents. PPP is proud that they have kept the mission of Mohtarma Benazir alive and gave a strongest blow to opposition, biased media-anhors and judiciary of Chaudary Iftikhar.

  10. All the hate mongers would see the election results soon, the final verdict by the people not their paid govt servants who have made the courts a political party. It is a great test of democracy after the recent assaults and a chance to show people’s sentiments about the disqualifications. Let PML-N and PTI contest the elections and prove their worth to the voters. Enough talks from the urban elites, let the local people decide who do they want?

  11. It is actually victory for PTI candidate who lost by negligible margin against the person where all state machinery was working overtime+ exPM himself + development work at the cost of Baluchistan ( development fund of Baluchistan was diverted by the ex PM Jilani during his period )…..actual result will emerge in general election…pls wait Jiyalas……

  12. Dear Multanis, Please upload all those pics which were pasted on the walls of Multan during the election campaign, showing Nawaz & Imran on the same banner to disclose the hidden agreement in between P.T.I & P.M.L-N. also the pic of Chief Justice on the banners of the Bosan will be a great and concrete proof of the involvement of the so called independent Judiciary in this contest.. We must bring all such things in Public to show the intentions of the Government servants to general public.
