FAISALABAD – Hundreds of protesters thronged one of the busiest highways of the city to condemn the flourishing drug trade in their area and the poor performance of the local police.
The residents of Gokhuwal village, led by Masood Cheema, gathered at Millat Road. They blocked the incoming and outgoing traffic by burning tyres and staging a sit-in. The protesters alleged the Millat Town police were sheltering drug dealers. They lamented dozens of youth had become addicts owing to easy access of drugs in the area.
Nishatabad DSP Tahir Nawaz Warraich and Millat Town SHO arrived at the scene and assured the protesters of launching an inquiry into their allegations and taking a severe disciplinary action against those found guilty.
LIQUOR RECOVERED FROM COP: The Gulberg police raided a drug den, arrested a police constable and seized liquor from him. SHO Malik Tariq was tipped off that illegal sale of alcohol was going on in Gujjar Basti area. During the police raid, the main accused Chand and his accomplice escaped with two cartons of alcohol.
However, the police arrested another man with four bottles of liquor. The accused was identified as Civil Lines police constable Ishtiaq Ahmed. The police are hunting for the other accused.
NO CLUE TO MISSING UNCLE AND NEPHEW: The disappearance of an uncle and his nephew five days ago from Samundary is still shrouded in mystery as the family is suspecting that the missing people might be lured by extremist groups and used for their nefarious motives.
According to details, 20-year-old Mudassar and his 19-year-old nephew Zubair, residents of Chak No 541 GB near Tandlianwala, disappeared from their house five days ago. Zaubair’s brother Ramzan said he was looking for a job while their uncle was a second year student at Govt College Samundary.
THREE WOMEN RAVISHED: Three women, including a 16-year-old girl, were raped in different parts of the city in last 24 hours. According to details, a 16-year-old girl of Mohallah Hussainabad, Tandlianwala, was going to a market when accused Aqil accompanied by an identified man overpowered her and took her to his house where she was gang-raped by both of them.
They, later, detained the victim in his house. The vicitm’s family, searching for her, reached the house and freed the girl. In the second incident, Younus Masih of Sultan Chowk, Ghulam Mohammad Abad, reported to the police that Shaban and his accomplices took away his daughter-in-law and gang-raped her.
The police registered a case and started investigation. In another incident, a resident of Hajiabad, Sargodha Road, reported to the women police station concerned that one Irfan raped her in her house and escaped.
SPURIOUS DRUGS seized: A health department team raided a house in Madanpura and recovered a large quantity of spurious drugs worth Rs 500,000 and arrested two people. Executive District Officer Health Dr Rasheed Ahmed had directed DHO Dr Munir Subhani to raid the house.
When the officer accompanied by a team of Drug Inspectors arrived at the spot, they found a large quantity of unbranded and substandard anti-biotic and intoxicating drugs that carried no labels. Muhammad Aleem and Muhammad Adil were arrested by the team.
