Urea import target in TCP’s sight

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is set to complete its urea import operation of 0.3 million metric tonnes till mid August next month in order to avert any shortage of urea in the country, an official said.
According to the official, Trading Corporation of Pakistan has imported 2, 50000 metric tons urea so far and the total imported quantity of urea has been lifted by the National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML).
“The Corporation will open another tender for the import of rest of the 50,000 metric tonnes urea on July 27 so that the urea import operation will be completed till mid August,” said the official.
TCP is importing Urea in pursuance of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet directives to meet the supply and demand gap of the Urea Fertiliser for Kharif season 2012
Trading Corporation of Pakistan had awarded tender for import of 0.1 million tonne urea on May 21, 2012 in response to its international tender notice floated on April 18 2012 for which the TCP awarded import contract at US$522.86 per metric tonne (PMT) to the lowest bidder M/s. Gavilon Fertiliser LLC, USA.
Trading Corporation of Pakistan in response to its tender notice opened on June 25, 2012 has awarded contract for import of another 0.1 Metric tonne of Urea at US$ 411.77 per metric tonne to the lowest bidder M/s. Transammonia A.G. Switzerland.
This tender was floated on May 21, 2012 in which all 15 bidders participated and quoted prices ranging from US$ 411.77 to US$ 488.00 PMT All the bids were found responsive in terms of prescribed evaluation criteria.
For the import of 50,000 metric tonnes urea third tender was opened on last Thursday and some 13 international suppliers participated in the tender and quoted price ranging $426.39 to $478.28 per tonne. However, the lowest bid submitted by M/s CHS was for 50,000 tonnes against required quantity of 0.1 m tonnes. Lowest bidder offered to supply urea at $426.39 per tonne and as per term and conditions also deposited a bid amount of $792,000.
