The Gymkhana Club Cricket Summer Camp 2012 concluded in a colorful closing ceremony here at the Gymkhana cricket ground Bagh-e-Jinnah on Sunday. Former cricket legends and Test stars graced the ceremony while a great number of children’s parents and members of Gymkhana club were also present on the occasion. Convener Cricket Nadeem Hassan Asif, who is also Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shareef, was chief organiser of the event. Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood was named as chief guest but due to his absence Lahore Gymkhana Chairman Ziaur Rehman graced the occasion as a chief guest. Pakistan legend cricketer Javed Miandad, former Pakistan team captain Inzamam Ul Haq, Javed Zaman, wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal, LRCA chief Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad, Imran Bucha and other dignitaries were also present there.
At the concluding ceremony, chief guest along with Javed Miandad and Inzamam distributed kits and shields among all the participants of the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Javed Miandad said: “Lahore Gymkhana cricket ground, I think, one of the best as well as most beautiful grounds of the world due to its worth and environment. It has also an honour to host international matches in which world’s outstanding cricketers played and they all lauded and appreciated this ground.” Advising the participants of the camp who were of 8 years old to 16 years old, Miandad said: “This was a golden chance for these young cricketers as PCB’s highly qualified coaches trained them and improved their game and skills. They have learnt a lot but the need of the hour is to keep the practice up and continue visiting and playing in the grounds. If a player regularly comes to ground and play consistently, he becomes the star cricketer so obeying their parents and coaches, these children can become future of Pakistan.” It is pertinent to mention here that Gymkhana Club Cricket Summer Camp 2012 was held at Gymkhana Cricket Ground for a one a half month time in which Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) qualified coaches trained the around 150 children of various age categories.
