Astaghfaar!

Controversy might be Veena Malik’s middle name, but this Ramadan the mischievous missy is all set to seek redemption – at least that’s the selling point for Hero TV. In a move that has generated enough hullabaloo to match that of the infamous FHM cover photo episode, Veena would be hosting a show called “Astaghfaar”, in a bid to encourage the ‘sinners’ to purge themselves of their evil and ask Allah Almighty for forgiveness. Needless to say that Hero TV’s ratings would skyrocket, as the battle to woo the audience at Iftaar time (Ramadan’s prime time) heats up.
Astaghfaar’s promo begins with a warning highlighting the fact that the hour to seek clemency for our misdoings has arrived. As fire blazes in the background, symbolising hell, punishment looms for those who’ve gone astray. The promo then goes on to showcase an emotional Veena Malik, spelling out her intentions of seeking forgiveness for her sins, and counseling the viewers to do the same. Nonetheless, the prospect of watching Veena Malik – the woman that has made a mockery of both the cultural and religious beliefs from our neck of the woods – hosting an Iftar time show in the holy month of Ramadan is a hard pill to swallow for the masses.
“The liberal secular media group, which has employed Veena to do this show, has a habit of cashing in on controversy and apparently that is the only way they know how to make money. It is a shame that this time, they did not even spare religion. Such below the belt mockery of religion is the benchmark of all Pakistani pseudo liberals,” said Nida Masood, a LUMS graduate failing to fathom the entire episode. Salman Ali, a teacher, said, “I can’t believe that every single person has taken even Ramadan for granted. They believe that they can do whatever the hell they feel like throughout the year, and ask for forgiveness in the holy month. They can fool the people, but do they not realise that they can’t fool Allah?” Jehangir Ahmed, an eighth-grade student, wrapped up the debate with a stinging exclamation mark, “This move shows that media is indeed free. They should also put the promo for Veena’s upcoming film ‘Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai’ on air simultaneously. Maybe that will clarify how ridiculous the whole thing is.” The backlash was inevitable, but as far as Hero TV is concerned, so is the viewership.

  1. Unfortunately, in Pakistan and India religion is being used as Hot Commercial Product in Show Business Industry. Though in Pakistan, it was not at that large scale. However, after 9/11, (duly funded by INGOs), it has been now made the hottest product and mostly used for mockery, in the guise of dramas, talk shows, one-man shows, Naat and Qawwali.
Just imagine how you will feel seeing the dirtiest woman of the show-biz talking on Ramadan, Quranic verses and Ahadees e Mubaraka.
And who should we blame Sir? Media wala, Veena, or our Government?
Its the people of Pakistan who should be blamed for these shameful happenings right under our nose. What you expect more out of a nation of 18 crore Heejra?
And finally, don’t get surprise if by next Ramadan we may see Veena or Mira appearing in Religious talk shows in 2 piece dress!!
Either we bear it or bore it for all times!!!

  3. Hero tv shud be immediately banned.. Ths is the worst channel on air thez days…. Ths is nothing else tht religion’s insult… Nw ppl lyk veena wl tell us abt ramadan and astaghfaar…..thez r qayamat’s signs… Kyun n iss qoam pay azaab aye jahan aisi govt. Aur veena jaisay loag lead kar rahay hoan

  4. This is shameful media of Pakistan which is giving full shelter and coverage of this woman.Otherwise there is nothing and like her rhere are thousands of women stay at Heera Mandis and media must be also merciful to them so that they iether become popular or become good women and become part of this noble society.Think about this and give up coverage of this woman now.

  5. You don't like it, don't watch it. Let the ratings fall. Let the media businessmen know they can't play with our religion.
But I am sure, all of us will be watching this show and we will be cribbing and making fun about this all our Ramadan. Wrong is happening around us because we ourselves are corrupt inside.

  6. Why shouldn't Veena do a Ramzan show? She's much better morally and ethically than most of the mullahs doing Ramzan specials. She hasn't incited people to violence, she didn't label anyone 'wajib-ul-qatal' ,so what's the objection to her doing a ramzan show.
It's high time the religious barbarians stopped obsessing over the length of a woman's clothes, veena did nothing wrong, the ppl objecting to her ramzan show are the ones who are the real problem.

    • Keeping in mind the length of women clothes is part of Islam and is faraz on every Muslim women just as roza in the holy month of Ramadan. There is alot wrong in her doing the Ramadan show. This is Islam not anyone's source of income. This is believe. In the same way these mullahs who use Islam for the sake of Income is wrong on every front.
I believe its high time for so called liberal (be-parda) women to stop this obsession of short/transparent clothes as a symbol of being liberal and moderate and trying to justify this non-sense in Islam. Islam is pretty straight forward in this Parda matter.
Open up your brain tank Ms. Saira Majeed because here comes premium hi-octane knowledge, "Open Quran this Ramadan and try to read it, not in Arabic but in Urdu or English whatever you understand better and try to understand the meaning of Parda in Islam"

  7. Great choice for a Ramadan host.Veen malik is a self-confident woman who has endured a lot of abuse and criticism in her life but has remained strong. She is much better than the rest of the hypocritical beards appearing on tv telling us how to live our lives.Veena has done nothing that she should be ashamed of,so there is no reason why she should not be doing this programme. Her only crime is that she didn't surrender before the demands of our society's religious savages and she did what was right. Congratulations to Veena on everything and we look forward to breaking our fast with Veena malik's ramadan programme on tv every evening.

  8. I agree with Saira. Judge her by what she has to say. If you don't like what she has to say don't watch it…..Tolerance….

  9. I sincerely hope that its true aand just another ordinary tactics to draw attention. May Allah guide us all to the right path and accept our repentance.

  10. To hell with media ethics. These media factory owners are just simply ruining remains of our norms, culture, ethics, morals…

  11. Furqan Ali you are right…. Rest are on Hero TV payroll. Every one know Veena Malik if somone want to know more just write her name on youtube.com.

  12. Why does she so badly want to make fun of deen? What's her point? Either give up on her so called muslim identity or she needs to spare Islam from her stunts before Allah swt's wrath overtakes.
