Coal miners in Balochistan went on an indefinite strike on Sunday, following a wave of killings and kidnappings. The president of the National Labour Federation announced that the coal miners were particularly perturbed after the killing of seven miners and kidnapping of another eight. There are about 500 coal mines in which around 40,000 labourers work round the clock. The coal miners strike would hit the industrial sector hard. The miners are demanding the provincial government provide foolproof security at their work places.
