Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said the Pakistan People Party (PPP) was putting democracy at stake in order to appease its allies.
Talking to a delegation headed by convener of Friends of Lyari and central leader of Karachi City Alliance Habib Jan in London, Nawaz said Karachi was the business hub of the country, adding that the government’s failure to establish peace in the city was equivalent to disregard towards democracy.
He said once the PML-N came to power, it would establish peace in Karachi, particularly in Lyari. He said history stood testimony to the fact that the PML-N sacrificed its government in Sindh after the murder of Hakeem Saeed.
He also assured the visiting delegation that the PML-N would strive hard to give due recognition and status to the people associated with sports in Lyari.
Habib Jan thanked Nawaz for his commitment over the Karachi situation. He regretted that the ban imposed by the Sindh government on the “Mohabbat Sindh rally”. He also condemned the Lyari operation, media ban of Uzair Baloch and Zafar Baloch and other steps of the government to gag the freedom of expression of the people of Lyari. He regretted that neither the governor nor chief minister bothered to offer condolences to the victims of Lyari operation.
He said such acts of the government were damaging the democratic system.
Meanwhile, the PML-N manifesto committee met on Sunday to finalise recommendations for the next general elections.
According to reports, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif asked the committee to draft a manifesto to bring an end to poverty, price hike, unemployment and load shedding in the country.
The meeting, chaired by Sartaj Aziz, reviewed the suggestions included in the national agenda of the PML-N.
It was attended by party leaders and experts in political, economic, energy, social welfare, education, health and law and order.
Talking to reporters, Aziz said recommendations were being drafted for the resolution of the country’s problems in line with the direction of Nawaz Sharif. He said the PML-N had a team which could rid the country of IMF, load shedding, price hike and unemployment.
He said for the resolution of the problems, the country had to be economically strong.
