Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Faruqui has said that present democratic government has initiated different programmes to empower the women in society as it is serious to give due status to women. Benazir Income Support Programme, Waseela-e-Haq, Behan Benazir Basti, distribution of agriculture lands to landless women, women crisis centres in 16 districts and vocational centres have been initiated in this regard, she said while talking to a group of Reckitt Benckiser (RB) employees at their office here on Friday.
She said the government had passed bills for the protection of women rights and anti-harassment bill at work place that was a milestone in Pakistan’s history. She said: “Institutions should work in their limits and democracy should continue in the country.” Sharmila Faruqui added that there was need to change mindset of the society regarding domestic violence and it was a fact that harassment culture was less in corporate culture as compared to other work places. She advised the women to work harder to achieve their goals. She said during the last four years government had done a lot for the masses.
She expressed her hope that changes were taking place gradually and new generation of Pakistan would definitely bring about positive changes. She said more jobs must be given to the women in offices in order to enable them to support their families. On this occasion chief executive Tahir Malik, Director HR Faisal Usmani, Marketing Director Tauseef Faisal and other officers were also present.
