LAHORE – The Law Society Pakistan is surprised by the recent decision of the judicial commission regarding denial of extension to 10 additional judges of Lahore High Court and has appealed to legal fraternity to voice against the move.
These additional judges were appointed during 2009-2010 for a period of one year on the recommendation of respective chief justices (CJs) and the chief justice of Pakistan but, after the recent decision of the commission, they had stopped functioning.
In the requisition, it was stated that 10 judges had neither been confirmed nor given extension without any cogent reason and so far no reason had been given for this step of the commission. It was further stated that it was an unjust and unfair decision as those judges who were honest, hard working, well-mannered and had good character were also removed.
Advocates in South Punjab had also expressed dissatisfaction and termed the removal of the judge, who disposed over 7,000 cases at Multan and Bahawalpur Benches in one year, as discrimination with the region.
