ISLAMABAD – A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Communication on Saturday accused Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani of diverting funds of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Multan and Larkana. Multan is the hometown of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Larkana – commonly known as the city of Bhuttos – is considered a PPP stronghold.
The committee met under Senator Zahid Khan and the meeting was attended by Senator Ismail Buledi, Planning Commission Secretary Sohail Ahmed, NHA Acting Chairman Muhammad Junaid and senior officials of the ministries of Communications and Finance. Zahid Khan alleged that NHA, under the influence of the prime minister, released funds of almost Rs 400 billion for roads projects in Multan and Larkana.
“PM got released funds for his hometown by neglecting deserving areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where many road projects have been closed due to a shortage of funds,” he said. The Senate body issued notices to the principle secretaries to the president and prime minister on their failure to attend the meeting.
