Hands off judiciary: Imran

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Thursday warned against any attempts to amend the Contempt of Court Act, saying the rulers wanted to weaken the judiciary in order to protect their corruption.
In a statement, Imran said the ruling cabal had been trying everything to avoid accountability. “They took a number of steps in this regard: One, no law on accountability was allowed to be passed in the parliament; two, a sustained campaign was initiated to undermine the National Accountability Bureau; and three, the accountability watchdog was stuffed with handpicked individuals.” The PTI chief added that the only institution standing in the way of the corrupt regime was the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which had been constantly checking the corrupt practices of the ruling party over the last four years.
Imran said the most important decision taken by the Supreme Court was declaring the National Reconciliation Ordinance “illegal”. He said the previous prime minister did not implement the court’s verdict because he was mandated by his superiors in the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to protect the theft of billions of rupees committed by Asif Ali Zardari. “This led to his conviction under the contempt of court law, and disqualification as a member of the parliament and prime minister,” Imran said, adding that the lesson learnt by the ruling cabal after this episode was to weaken the judiciary by amending the contempt of court law.
“The provisions being amended will clearly open the way for the national office holders and members of the legislatures to refuse to obey court decisions, as they would face no penalty for doing so,” Imran said, adding that the amendments would provide cover to the looting and plundering committed by the ruling elite.
NO ALLIANCE WITH PML-N: The PTI chief also ruled out any possibility of striking an alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He said that the PPP and the PML-N were not different from each other, as both of them had been enjoying rule in the name of so-called democracy. “When general polls are a foot away, both of them have started playing their tactics in order to befool the nation for their vested interests,” Imran said, adding that the PML-N’s leadership escaped to London while the country was facing challenging problems.
NATO SUPPLIES: The PTI took out a massive public rally from Lahore to Gujranwala to demonstrate against the restoration of NATO supply routes amid continued drone strikes.
Addressing the rally at Gondlawala Chowk in Gujranwala, Imran said the unconditional opening of NATO supply lines by the government was an insult to the nation. He said that drone attacks were still going on but the corrupt politicians were busy in safeguarding their corruption instead of safeguarding the masses.
The PTI leader also denounced extensive load shedding, corruption, unemployment, and “futile policies” of the current government which included the restoration of NATO supply lines.
He said that instead of revisiting their relation with the US and taking strong stand against drone attacks, the rulers had sold the nation by opening the supply lines unconditionally. “Our children are being murdered but these corrupt politicians who have assets abroad have plans to leave the country in difficult times. But we will not let them escape,” Imran said, adding that both the ruling parties (the PPP and the PML-N) were in partnership to maintain status-quo and stop any positive change in the society. He said the PTI, with the support of the youth, would wash away the corrupt elements.
He warned of launching a “tsunami march” towards Islamabad if the government tried to insult and clash with the Supreme Court.
He said the plight of the common man was worsening with each passing day, as the country’s industry was closing due to extensive load shedding. He said that Rs 66,000 were being spent every minute to maintain the luxurious life styles of the corrupt rulers. He said the PTI was a sword hanging over the heads of the corrupt politicians, and it would not let them flee with the hard earned money of the masses. He pledged to eradicate load shedding and unemployment from the society after coming into power. He said that the Pakistanis living abroad were willing to insure the influx of capital in Pakistan to free their motherland from foreign clutches.
He said the PTI was the party of the youth, and a truly democratic one in which anyone could become Chairman through elections within the party. PTI’s central leadership, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Javaid Hashmi, SA Hameed, was also present at the occasion.

    • And the question remains what if he doesnt get! Politics is the art of the possible as they say! MQM and JUi are likely to support IK yet he'll be heading aminority govt and that wouldnt be easy! But atleast he would know who to blame! As they say, a good scapegoat is almost as good as a solution!

    • Imran Khan is commenting on the comtempt of court bill and not dual nationality bill. It is highly likely the IK has a red passport. Imran Khan do not forget to declare your red passport when submitting your nomination papers..

  1. He has a very big team of corrupt LOTAAS n let him play alone with team, Example====Saeed Qureshi from multan n Sheeda tUlly from Pindi etc etc

    • @Hanif, they may be corrupt but lets give him a chance. God knows we've given these thugs from PMLN & PPP enough chances.

  2. This is the most rediculous decision. PTI is opposition of opposition.IN reality supporting the corrupt PPP Govt

  3. INshAllah, IK will win!! He is our only hope now and we have to give PTI a chance. Had enough of PPP and PML. All are the same thugs, corrupt, traitors – EXCEPT IK.
Look at the Contempt of Court Law that they are trying to change. Sharifs have not said a word; they probably want the same to make legal their corrupt practices. Why don't they say anything now against PPP or Mr. 100%.

    • Look at the dual nationality, Imran Khan has not touched it yet. He cannot hide from it, he must give up the red passport before contesting for a seat.

  4. The PTI is probably the last chance Pakistan has for a generation of achieving a democratic and relatively corrupt-free future.

As for the cynical attempt to amend laws to protect themselves, I hope the Supreme Court asks the very pertinent question of whether such legislation is in keeping with Common Law and Sharia Law?

If the NA passed a law tomorrow stating that a murder committed by the President, PM or Chief Minister would never be investigated or even deemed a murder, would that be morally defensible?
As it is, the Democratic PPP has murdered freedom and justice in this country. Will no one stand up and defend us from this tyranny?

The fact that corruption is now so deeply engrained in the political class that it is now seen as a mark of pride to have billions flowing into land, gold and Swiss bank accounts from illegal means.

The Sharid brothers by their silence condemn themselves.

  5. Imran Khan has some ideas but he alone cannot win, realistically his ideas are way too crazy. We have not been able to eliminate corruption in 65 years, what makes Imran Kan think he can do it in 90 days as he claims ? he also has stuffed PTI with the seasoned corrupt players.Like they say,one man cannot change millions,he will not be able to control everything. He may be able to change alot of it but he will need years,YEARS.I hope he wins for the sake of our country and for the sake of our people. But remember,Imran is going against some serious politicians like Zardari and the PML-N Sharif's.Those guys know how to scream and lie.I think PPP and PML-N are too big to lose to PTI.And I hope I am wrong.

    • @desi – yes agree with your opinion that things cannot be corrected in just 90days in Pakistan and IK is totally misleading the nation on this point. Secondly, apart of demonstrating big-packs of people at PTI gatherings. IK & Co seems totally ignorant in planning how to win a constituency election. PTI is entirely depending on few runaways from PPP & PML(N) and am afraid with these few (i.e. maximum 10-20 traditional family seats) – i don't see any major victory coming toward PTI , infact Mr.Imran Khan would even not be able to win his in NA although he will pour in million of ruppess in constituency to win. Sorry Mr.Imran Khan you too seems similar to another Asghar Khan or Hameed Gul or Hafeez Saeed……. People of Pakistan knows your deception tricks very well afterall you were a famous Playboy not very long ago…. hunting for "white" women only, and never bothered to even consider any Pakistani girl fit – You & Your Past are too arrogant . How can this nation forget your past , when you are not ready to forget past of Mr Zardari or Mr.Nawaz Shareef…..

  6. Years b4 there was a popular slogan with huge croud “Qazi a raha ha” But Qazi could not get some thing except supporting PPP. Now it is revival of history with the slogan “sonami a raha ha” Purpose is same to support PPP.

  8. Hundreds of supporters in Gondalanwala Chowk before PTI leaders arrived at the location, and thousands more flooded the Grand Trunk (GT) Road and the overhead bridge which led to the intersection. Must Watch the Speech of IK http://goo.gl/ENVxo

  9. Negative media is not showing clear picture to people – Media is getting paid by interest groups, and Bhatta mafia – People want change and they are showing support for IK , but media is either lying to people or stretching truth — BTW IK has green passport –

  11. In good old days those who praised judges and their judgments were held as much guilty of contempt as those who criticized them. But now the judiciary is politicized, even made controversial, by partisans of one cause or another. The partisan judges, politicians, media people and lawyers are at the forefronts of this but hardly anyone is taking notice of it. All those belonging to the anti civilian set up class have found a new love in form of the Supreme Court. Imran Khan and Nawaz Shairf are doing processions to demonize their political opponents in the name of the Supreme Court. The judges in their self righteousness have taken it on themselves to humiliate the civilian government. They have themselves become a party in the political arena and look too keen to be figured in the cover stories of the newspapers and to be the most talked about people on the TV.
What sort of judiciary is this and what sort of supporters it has, which are negating the very fundamental principles of this institution more than Zardari and Gilani can even think of?

    • Pak army is shying away from direct takeover and direct army rule. Now, they have a syndicate comprising PTI, politicised Judiciary, DPC and army. Somehow or the other, the syndicate wants Imran Khan to be the PM and this a bad omen for democracy.

  12. He is still aggressive to deal with people of Pakistan …how come he change the world when he is doing the same thing which all the political mafia is doing…Faces are different but inside they all same….
