Police have started setting up additional check-posts in the old city area of Karachi to deal with the growing threat of money extortion and target killing. According to SP Saddar City, police posts are aimed at protecting traders and shopkeepers from extortionists. Although majority of the traders has termed the step as satisfactory, some say criminal people continue their activities even in the police presence. Reacting to the development, citizens said such steps had been taken in the past also and that the posts were left deserted after a short time. It remains to be seen that how long these police posts remain functional this time.
