Musharraf fears another military coup in Pakistan

Claiming that Pakistan was being run to the ground, former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf did not rule out a fresh military takeover in the country.
“The state is being run to the ground at the moment, and people are again running to the military to save the country,” Musharraf told a gathering in Aspen, Colorado.
While agreeing to the fact that the country’s constitution was sacrosanct, the former dictator questioned, “Should we save the country and do something unconstitutional or uphold the constitution but let the state go down?” Vowing to return home on his “own accord”, Musharraf shrugged off calls in his country for Interpol to arrest him, saying he was prepared to risk arrest by returning for elections, which he claimed would be held this year.
The former president’s appearance in the US came just days after the federal intelligence agency sent a second reminder to the Interpol to arrest him, labelling him a “proclaimed offender” in the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007, reported The Guardian. The retired general repeated his previous assertions that he would return voluntarily, “even at risk to my life”.
“I know I see Pakistan and I know it has all the potential to do well for itself, now at this moment it’s being run to the ground,” said Musharraf who currently lives in the UK and Dubai.
The former president did not give specific dates for his return to Pakistan. He has previously said he would return in January this year and then in March, but on both the occasions he failed to return home.
The Guardian said, in a wide ranging interview to a US media company later, Musharraf claimed that Iran was “determined” to develop a nuclear arsenal.
During the interaction, The Guardian said Musharraf reminisced about travelling to Iran in 2004 in an attempt to dissuade President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from pursuing nuclear weapons.
Musharraf discussed talking to Ahmadinejad and Khamenei in 2004.
“You should not adopt a confrontational course, you should adopt a conciliatory course, for the sake of the world and the region,” Musharraf recalled telling Ahmadenijad, however he said the Iranian president did not listen to his suggestion.
“They are determined to develop a nuclear arsenal, although I do not think they have a reason to develop,” Musharraf said.

  1. Musharraf may be right but he should also know that quick fixes are no the solution. He charged Nawaz Sharif for an act of terror whereas Nawaz should have been charged with endangering lives of the people on that airplane and also being reckless in his actions in ordering to take the plane any where out of Pakistan when it was running low on fuel. I have had access to the papers generated from the court proceedings and I have to say that I was disappointed.

Musharraf should also know that by brining in the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) in the manner it was brought in he did an extreme disservice to Pakistan. NRO was brought in to serve a needy Musharraf who wanted to stay in as President but there was another group of crooks led by Zaradri and Sharif making inroads to positions of power to the detriment of Pakistan; namely the losses in Pakistan Railway, PIA, Pakistan Steelmills, Baluchistan and the Karachi killings

NRO was single malicious act of treason against the state of Pakistan, an act of treason. It is better for the former President to keep quiet and search for competent barristers to defend him in the court of law where he should be explaining his actions.

    • Thank you for a good post. I also think NRO was an act of betrayal but regardless we cannot deny Musharraf was a million and one times better than the gutter scum & mafia who rule right now.

Pakistan IS being run to the ground & we do need to get Zardari, Nawaz, Altaf H. & even Fazalur rehman dead and buried deep in the sea.

      • I agree & well said
We need Mr.Musharraf back he just made one mistake thats all & so what he is human as along as he was not & he is not corrupted we need him

  2. Dear General! You once claimed the uniform was your second skin. I am sure it has not shrunk nor whithered away. Do you have the '' Moral Courage '' to admit your blatant faults that led to the present circumstances.

  3. Unfortunately Musharraf blew the historic opportunity completely and can serve now only as a senior advisor not as the chief executive. He had the chance to introduce the Presidential system, a 4 year term, directly elected women and Senators, more provinces, Kalabagh Dam, an anti-corruption law with teeth – with the burden of explaining wealth on the possessor, population control measures, highways and rail lines built by the US for the containers, power plants,…the list is long and painful. And we got, incredible, the NRO and AZ as President! Now someone else must do it or we are sunk.

  4. Dear General Mush:
    1. Admit your blunders most honestly, frankly and open heatedly.
    2. Seek pardon, forgiveness and total amnesty from the people of Pakistan whom you betrayed and ruled ruthlessly for cer nine long years.
    3. Nation will forgive you inshallah.
    4. And then set a date, stick to it and return to the homeland without any fear of any kind whatsoever.
    5. But if you are not courageous enough to do 1-4 above then please leave the people of Pakistan alone for the remaining days of your life. We thank you for all your deeds of the past.

  5. he must me arrested through Interpol and should be trialed for treason, for two time imposing Marshalaw, killing of Bugti in Baluchistan and Lal Masjid which opened suicide flood gate in Pakistan and appeasing India for ten years in result Kashmir issue has been died.

    • Killing of Bugti was an heroic act. Lal Masjid was a very sensitive event & could have been dealth better but the fault lies with the lal masjid people.

There is NO place for arms in a masjid.

      • yes then what about those mullas who had weapons with them in a masjid & what about them using women & children as human shields . the mullas or terrorist were right & Army who went in to save them wrong ?
        are u even human ?

  6. all of your comments may be good. but i should suggest you to study about what happen in musharraf time . it was 200% better than whats going on now. what ever action he took it was just for Pakistan . and what he done its not he ordered alone it was taken with full support off the politition which are still in the parliament and cabinet …… why you are not catching them

  7. I think,Musharaf is right,he has contacts with the present command in Pakistan.Even for Iran he might be telling the Truth.

  8. Musharaff is a theif too. Stolen all the funds uk and usa gave to people off pakistan when we had the earthquake . No wonder he owns a 900.000 pound appartment in mayfair london.
He’s a lyer . Only god kwns if we had summot to do with benezir bhooto killing. However he needs to be a man and go pak and face the music.

Let me tel u people this much cuming frm a british pakistani. If pak is ran my zedari and co pak has no future.

You need imran khan as a president. And watch pak inshallah be stable. At the moment its all corrupt inc the law and zedari him self.

I wouldn’t want musharaff sentanced . Or zedari killed but for them to step down and make way for imran khan the true lover for pak who sacrificed his own marridge just for pakistan.

Inshallah 1 day he wil take over inshallah.

  9. Does Musharraf, a dictator and a crooked usurper expect a military coup or more like, he wants to see one? Under civilian rule, he has no chance of returning to the country as he will be hauled up on treason charges for sending over 60 judges of superior judiciary home illegally and he also faces death the penalty for the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Perhaps he is hoping that Military Government will facilitate his return.

Forget it Mr. Musharraf. There will be no military coup and nor will you return unless you are prepared to stand trial.

  10. FACTS ARE you expect musharraf to be perfect while he had all the good intentions and did a great job also giving us so much but it will never be good enough for a corrupt and backstabbing people. In Islam it is said the leader is a reflection of the people. And this is 100% true. He tried to give everybody a new chance on the reconciliation road but they are truly corrupt, bad in judging, aggressive and backstabbing. So long we don't recognize and admit we have to change our attitudes so long we will be our own worst enemies. He should have ruled with an iron hand there too much animals to try a conversation. That was his mistake. Believing the Pakistani people were ready for democracy, what a lie!

  11. What I hold against Musharraf is that he did not kill the sharif family when he had a chance to. We all know nothing lasts forever and Musharraf's rule wasn't going to last either. If he had the foresight he would have rid Pakistan of all politicians before his rule ended. We would have been grateful.

    • spot on, he should have dealth with Nawaz, Shabaz & his son as well, once and for all.

  12. Musharraf,
Boots can’t learn how to run the countries, please be limited to that what you are supposed to be. Let the countries most devoted people to worry about.
All the crap we are facing in the shape of current most corrupt regime is what you seeded and planted. Please be away and let the politically and morally honest people to takeover INSHALLAH in near future.
Please don’t forget that you have already caused an irrecoverable loss to this esteemed country.

  13. There it goes, he has confirmed my suspicions. I've always believed that the Army deliberately installs and makes sure that the most corrupt politicians rule the country so that they play havoc with the country and then the army has a reason to take over. Don't believe me? Rise of Nawaz Sharif? Rise of Chaudries? Zardari and Co. courtesy NRO? Need i say more people? Army is the problem with Pakistan not the politicians. There are still many honest people in Pakistan, army just wouldn't let them come up to maintain their stake in our politics.

  14. Come back Musharraf! All is forgiven.

Unlike many of my countrymen, I regretted Musharraf's exit from power. He is a true patriot and was a very able leader. The bad joke we have endured since his exit, should be ample proof of that.
