Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has accorded approval to multi-billion rupees project of Leh Nullah expressway.
A committee headed by Chairman Planning and Development Punjab has been formulated to assess design and cost of Leh Nullah project. On Saturday, Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority Chaudhry Naseer gave a briefing about Leh expressway to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif at the camp office set up at Liaquat Bagh. The Director General RDA told that in the first phase, Rs 2 billion were to be spent for construction of road from Ammar Chowk to IJ Principal Road. The Leh Nullah is an old project which was stopped in 2008 due to paucity of funds. At that time services of Frontier Works Organisation FWO were hired for the project. The project cost was estimated at Rs. 18 billion in 2007. Under the project two signal-free roads were to be constructed on both sides of Leh Nullah (drain) to provide hassle-free vehicular movement from Rawalpindi to Islamabad. It may be mentioned that in previous years floods in Leh Nullah devastated the low lying areas along the busy Murree Road resulting in loss of precious lives and damages to worth billions of rupees property.
