100pc literacy rate must for country’s uplipt: Mujtaba

GUJRANWALA – The Punjab government is allocating billions of rupees for the education sector 100 per cent literacy rate is necessary for the development and progress of the country. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman while addressing the first convocation of Government Degree College People’s Colony.
The members of the Punjab Assembly, Muhammad Saeed Mughal and Shazia Ashfaq, Director Colleges Rana Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Excise Arshad Awan, EDO Education Raja Muhammad Anwar, Ghazanfar Ali Sani and others participated in the ceremony.
Mian Mujtaba said the country had been facing the challenges of terrorism, lawlessness, poverty and unemployment these days and these challenges could only be met by educating the younger generation in right direction.
“Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is working day and night for implementing reforms in this sector,” he said. The minister revealed that an endowment fund of Rs 2 billion had been allocated for the first time in the history of Pakistan to educate poor children up to college level. Over 16,000 students are benefiting from scholarships and 7,000 more will be added to this list next year while Danish schools will enable poor people to educate their children with dignity.
Earlier, Principal Muhammad Yousaf Mughal presented address of welcome while the chief guest awarded degrees to the graduates to conclude the convocation.
SURVEY FOR PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE: A joint team of Heavy Mechanical Complex and the city district government will conduct a survey for pedestrian bridge on GT Road Gujranwala. This was decided at a meeting presided over by Commissioner Saeed Iqbal Wahla. The participants were briefed on the installation of three bridges at Gondlanwala Chowk, Sialkoti Gate and Sheranwala Bagh.
DCO Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan said the HMC officers would conduct the survey in collaboration with the CDGG and, hopefully, two of the three bridges would be installed at the same time.
KILLER SENTENCED TO DEATH: Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdul Nasir awarded death sentence to one Muhammad Khalid and a fine of Rs 200,000 in a murder case. According to the prosecution, Muhammad Khalid, Muhammad Boota, Abu Bakar, Qasim and Khalida Bibi shot dead their close relative Muhammad Khalid in Kamoke. The court convicted the main accused, Muhammad Khalid, and acquitted the other accused, giving them the benefit of the doubt.
FPCCI CHIEF VISITS BUSINESS CENTRE: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Regional Chairman Muhammad Tariq Shafi visited Gujranwala Business Centre and praised the products placed at the stalls of “Made in Pakistan Industrial Exhibition.” He said that after Lahore, the Business Centre was established in Gujranwala which would go a long way in attracting national and global buyers. Earlier, GBC Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Ali briefed the guests about the functioning of the centre.
Muhammad Tariq Shafi was accompanied by LCCI VP Chaudhry Omar Atta and others while Project Director Muhammad Awais, Rana Nasir Mahmood, Nawaz Ahmad Bajwa, Anwar Aslam and Muhammad Iqbal Butt were also present on this occasion.
