The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the government to take action against Gilgit-Baltistan Inspector General of Police Hussain Asghar who has not rejoined the Haj corruption probe despite court orders.
Earlier this month, the federal government informed the court that Hussain Asghar had been relieved of his duties in GB and would soon join the FIA Haj corruption investigations.
A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing a suo motu case regarding the alleged corruption in Haj arrangements in 2010.
During the hearing, the court was informed that Hussain Asghar had not resumed his responsibilities in the probe.
Upon this, the CJ said he was just an employee of the government and not above the prime minister. “Stop his salary if he does not resume charge.”
The chief justice instructed the deputy attorney general to issue Asghar’s suspension order if he failed to follow the court’s instructions and orders.
The hearing was adjourned until today (Thursday).
