Punjab dominate National Swimming opening day

The 18th National Boys Swimming Championship got started yesterday (June 27) at the Peshawar Sports Complex, Peshawar. The event is being contested by five regions of the country including Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, KPK and FATA. The finals will be held on June 29. In the under-12 category three different races were held on the opening day of the event. Punjab secured the first position by claiming three gold medals and also created two new national records in 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley. Mohammad Rizwan of Punjab rewrote the record in freestyle with a time of 2:49:36 and in medley 3:08:81. On the first, Punjab was in dominating position with 80 points, Sindh on second with 46 and Islamabad on third with 10. In the U-14 category, Sindh stood first with 71 points by claiming two gold and two silver medals and also made a new national record in 200 m breaststroke when Hassan Paracha clocked (3:04:38). In the senior’s category, Punjab proved their dominance again by winning three gold medals and created another new national record in 100m backstroke. Here Mohammad Yahya completed the event with 1:14:00 time. At the end of the day, Punjab had 174 points while Sindh and KPK were second and third with 151 and 88 points respectively.
