The courtroom No 1 in the Supreme Court witnessed an interesting proceedings on Tuesday when a mother was able to understand the legal complexities of a case related to her daughter’s dower after Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry fluently used Pashtu language as tool to communicate with her.
The chief justice was heading his bench over a family matter related to dower issue of one Ms Naz Begum of Swat.
The counsel for the respondent apprised the bench that his client’s mother could not understand any other language except Pashtu.
At this, the chief justice told her that petitioner was ready to pay her daughter Rs1 lac but she kept insisting for Rs4 lacs. The chief justice reminded her that in that case, she would have to pursue the case at the lower court. Justice Jawwad S Khawja, sitting next to the CJ, surprised the media men covering court’s proceedings when he told the lady in Pashtu language to bring her daughter tomorrow for her statement. Later upon her consent, the bench directed the petitioner to pay dower amount within three days.
Well done Mr. CJ. Thats what we need. The poor woman must have been satisfied after the pashto dialogue.
He should only speak language of Justice – "Action Speaks Louder than Words" . Amazingly these days he is quite vocal on corruption !! – don't you think giving wrong verdicts and decisions are also a form on a Corruption …!!!! and CJ is part of number for wrong verdicts made in the past and also in present….
If the Chief Justice should only speak the language of the court , in that case you should only pray in arabic and not in your own language. To make a witness understand the contention and intention of the Court is also the duty of the court, for your kind information Mr Jiyo Pakistan, when statements are recorded a statement by the recording officer is added towards the end saying " The statement has been read out to the witness in the lannguage he understands and signs it as correct".
Please do not be so naive! why dont you question Mr. Zardari for saying Pakistan KHAPPAY?
This is the very reason the coalition government wanted to make all regional languages the official languages of Pakistan. But the PMLN and PML would not have it.
