The Lahore High Court on Wednesday barred the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from constructing a wall around the Gaddafi Stadium.
Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi passed the order on a civil miscellaneous application filed by TMA Gulberg in a pending matter regarding the PCB seeking directions for building a wall around the Gaddafi Stadium.
Earlier, the TMA’s counsel submitted before the court that the plan for the wall around Gaddafi Stadium had not been approved by the TMA Gulberg and that it was being constructed on the green belt area.
He stated that the PCB did not deposit the required fee for the purpose and that a no objection certificate (NOC) from Environment department and the Punjab government was also issued.
He further submitted that the TMA Gulberg was not informed about the court’s orders for the construction of the wall around the Gaddafi stadium. He pleaded the court to bar the PCB from constructing the wall. The court, after hearing the arguments, stopped the PCB from constructing the wall and also sought a reply by June 25 from it.
The PCB, through a petition, had challenged TMA Gulberg’s action to demolish the wall being built around the Gaddafi Stadium.
The PCB submitted that a wall around Gaddafi Stadium was being built for security purposes and that the TMA administration did not raise any objection to it in a meeting held to discuss the legality of the wall.
Later the TMA Gulberg demolished a section of the wall and also issued a notice to the PCB.
The board pleaded the court to restrain the TMA Gulberg administration from interfering in the matters and to grant permission to re-build the demolished portion of the wall.
It is pertinent to mention here that the court had earlier allowed the PCB to reconstruct the wall.
