AIOU employees protest sacking of colleagues

The employees of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the sacking of dozens of employees.
A large number of employees took part in the protest. The protesters gathered in front of the registrar office and chanted slogans against the registrar and the vice chancellor for sacking over 30 employees in last couple of weeks.
The peaceful protesters got enraged when the AIOU administration tried to kick out the sacked employees from the university premises. On this, a large number of other employees joined the protesters. The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans for the restoration of the sacked employees.
It is relevant to note here that the AIOU administration some days back fired over 30 employees on various charges. Since then the employees of the university have been protesting against the moe. The employees were of the view that the varsity administration fired their colleagues to adjust its favourites. The protest call was given by the Employees Welfare Organisation (EWA).
AIOU VC forms body to negotiate with workers: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) vice chancellor has constituted a five-member high-level committee to negotiate with university’s workers who staged protest to press their demands. The committee has been given the task to immediately enter into negotiation with the agitating workers to restore complete peace in the university.
The committee will look into the causes which resulted into the unruly incident took place outside the VC’s office on June 18, said a statement issued here Wednesday. It was led by Prof Dr Syed Abdul Siraj, Chairman Mass communication department who is also executive member of the University’s Executive Council. The members of the committee are: Mir Mukhtar Hussain Talpur, President Officer Welfare Association, Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas, President Academic Staff Association, Dr Syed Attaullah Shah and Haji Abdul Shakoor and senior officers of the university. The VC advised the committee to identify the issues that caused the unruly incident and give their findings as soon as possible to pacify the workers.
He said he had also been sympathetic to the workers and has taken a number of steps during the last two years towards their welfare and improving their working conditions. He said he attached high importance to the interest of millions of the university’s students across the country providing them best possible educational facilities.

  1. Wrong, not even a single step is taken in favor of university employees. Instead, on requesting for being stucked in same grade since 19 years people have been transfered in other provinces. Very low profile people are on higher seats and very hardworking and high profile people are under transferes/OSD's etc.
