PCP establishes regional office for media complaints

The Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) on Monday announced to establish a regional office for the redressal of public complaints regarding the media. According to a press release, in an informal meeting which held at Aiwan-e-Auqaf, by chairman Raja Mohammad Shafqat, the PCP registrar was directed to finalise the arrangements regarding the activation of the new office.
Veteran journalists Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Zia Shahid, Yasmeen Rehman MNA, Saira Afzal Tarar MNA, who are also members of the PCP, attended the meeting.
Chairman Raja Mohammad Shafqat while talking on the occasion said the main aim of the initiative was to build a long term partnership between news organisations and the general public to create a better understanding.
Briefing the participants about the council’s functions, the chairman said the Press Council of Pakistan was established to provide a forum to the general public to redress their grievances against newspapers and news agencies and to safeguard the freedom of press.
Abbasi said that a roundtable conference of the heads of Mass Communication departments of Country’s all Universities would be held at Islamabad on June 28 on the topic of ‘Media Ethics in Theory and Practice2019 in which renowned media experts will present their research papers.
