Former chief minister Punjab Dost Mohammed Khosa lauded the computerisation of land records and said after its completion the people will get rid of obsolete and exploitative system for the transfer of land and getting registered deeds.
Talking to reporters at the Punjab assembly on Monday, he said the system would root out corruption at lower level in Revenue Department and people would get relief from centuries old cruel practices.
Land owners, he said, will not face any complication about their properties through computer service centers set up under land record management information system.
Answering a question, he said, work on this project had been started in 24 districts while the remaining work would be carried out shortly. Initially, he said, 11 service centers will work in various cities whereas 30 more service centers will be opened soon.
Khosa, who is also a former Punjab revenue minister said record relating to the land would be available online through land record management information system and the ownership deed could be obtained within 30 minutes whereas transfer of land will be made within 50 minutes under this system.

  1. I will hesitate to reach such conclusions. Previous computerization drives in various federal and provincial departments have not been very successful. NADRA is not only prone to fraud, it service standards are not being met even after paying heavy fees for urgent processing and NIC delivery at home by mail.

Similarly, Drivers Licensing in Punjab is supposedly computerized but actually its not. It remains as manual as ever. DL offices in various districts of Punjab are not interlinked and changes and renewal of DL issued at one district can not be made at another district, for example. Take a look at renewal process of Drivers License in Lahore. Citizens are forced wait for hours and hours in sun during 40+ degrees Celcius ambient temperatures.

  2. Javeed I don't agreed with you. The automation of land record is some how difficult but not impossible. I think the best way is visit to Lahore service center then you may pass comments on it.

As I know this project will be the great milestone in the history of Pakistan.
