Speaker’s ruling case hearing underway in SC

Petitions against the NA speaker’s ruling of May 28 are being heard in the apex court by a three member bench. The bench is headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The petitions were filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
NA speaker Fehmida Mirza, on May 28, chose not to pass on Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s disqualification reference to the election commission. In this regard, the courts gave notice to PM Gilani, Attorney General Irfan Qadir, Dr. Fehmida Mirza, the Election Commission and the Federation on June 6.
