Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial said on Wednesday that it was hard to believe that the president could violate the constitution. The remarks came during the hearing of a petition relating to the holding of dual offices by President Asif Ali Zardari.
The chief justice said that it was evident that the president had not left his political post. However, it was not clear whether he held his party meetings at the Presidency or not.
The judge said the implementation of the court’s orders is the responsibility of the administration, adding that the president is expected to respect the court’s verdict and not to challenge it.
He said the court expected the president to do away with his dual role, but had not ordered the president to do so. Therefore, he said, the question of the contempt of court does not arise.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till June 16.
