Families of drag race victims absolve housing society

LAHORE – The families of the drag race tragedy victims have absolved the Bahria Town management, of all the blames. The tragedy took place on 5 December 2010 in Phase VIII of Bahria Town, when one of the driver lost control over his car and it rammed into spectators. Five people died in the accident.
The case registered by the police had nominated Bahria Town management as co-accused. The families representing the deceased and the injured; Lt. Col (R) Javed Iqbal and Mrs. Kausar Javed, legal heirs of Late Mohsin Javed, Mrs. Samar Babar and Mrs.Tahira Qaiser legal heirs of Late Babur Ali Khan and Asfand Yar, Farooq Azam and Mrs.Uzma Sohail legal heirs of Sohail Khan and Danyal Khan had personally appeared in the Court of Additional Session Judge Rawalpindi.
They got their statements recorded duly supported by affidavits that the Chief Executive Bahria Town Ahmad Ali Riaz, Senior Manager Security Col (R) Rafaqat Hussain, and Senior Manager Marketing Waleed Aman, all had absolutely no role in holding of said car race and therefore were not responsible for the tragedy.
Earlier, the families of the victims had also in person recorded a similar statement in front of Investigation Team comprising DIG Major Mubasher, and SSP Razzaq Cheema.
