Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued notices to former federal law minister, Babar Awan and law secretary Masood Chishti in the case regarding delay in construction of Nandipur and Cheechu Ki Malyan power projects.
A 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary heard the petition filed by PML-N’s leader, Khwaja Asif.
The apex court has been informed that the loss incurred by the federation from a single project, which amounted to around Rupees 113b, has now become non-receivable.
Lawyer of ministry of water and power, Khwaja Tariq Raheem said that the loss incurred due to the negligence of law ministry, and the issue would be taken in the next session of ECC.
In the court hearing, Khwaja Asif said the machinery of the power projects has been lying uselessly at Karachi seaport for two years and has chances of becoming dysfunctional, adding that the government faced a loss of Rupees 62 billion because the projects were not completed.
Chief Justice of Pakistan said, according to the commission report, the delay in Nandipur project resulted in a loss of Rupees 113 billion. Noting the increase in the demonstrations against power outages, he said these programs had to be completed in 2011.
Justice Jawad Khwaja asked how such a huge loss would be recovered, and observed that the law minister and the law secretary kept files of the projects with them for a year without taking any action.
Secretary Finance division did not attend the hearing despite being summoned by the court. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry expressed concerns over his absence.
Supreme Court demanded the joint statement of the secretaries of Finance ministry and Water and Power Ministry on the issue and adjourned the hearing till June 20.

  1. Once after the hearing the responsibility is attributed to certain individuals the losses could be recovered, if not in full but in part, from disposing off their assets.

  2. Shame on fake-Doctor Babar Awan and MahRaja Loadshedding of PPPTI for keeping the country in the dark!!!
