14-strong gang killed in Chaghi operation

Fourteen members of a criminal gang were killed in an operation by the Levies after the murder of three tribesmen in the remote Chaghi area near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, some 550 kilometres northwest of Quetta. According to details, clashes erupted between the local tribesmen and armed attackers after they killed a tribal elder’s son on Thursday morning. Two more tribesmen were killed in the clashes before the Levies launched its operation. Chaghi Deputy Commission Dr Tufail Baloch said the gang was led by Mohammad Azam, and was involved in several highway robberies, abduction for ransom, besides killing Ali Mardan, the son of tribal notable Haji Ali Raza Khan Hasani.
