Two more people were killed and several others injured as uncontrolled target killing and reckless violence continued in different areas of the city on Wednesday.
According to police, unknown armed men gunned down one person identified as Muhammad Waqar, 28, alias Khurram in Block 9, Federal B Area.
The police said the body of a youth wrapped up in gunny sack was recovered from Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The youth was gunned down after torture.
In Dhobi Ghatt area near Garden, unidentified armed miscreants opened gunfire and set ablaze four vendor stalls and a rickshaw. The intense firing smashed glasses of several houses.
Meantime, some other unidentified miscreants riding a motorbike hurled a hand grenade near KMC Workshop on Nishtar Road. However, the bomb fortunately could not go off and was defused by the bomb disposal squad.
Commenting on the volatile situation in the city, Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGP) Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah said the target killing spree has tapered off in the city. Additional contingents of police and the Rangers have been deployed in various tension-hit areas including Garden, Dhobi Ghat, Usmanabad, Old Golimar and Kharadar. Meanwhile, firing continued in different areas of the city during which more than 10 persons were injured.
