Following Supreme Court’s interim order suspending Rehman Malik’s membership to the Senate, the government on Monday promptly decided to appoint him as Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs.
According to well-placed sources, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, who is presently in Quetta, has taken a prompt decision to make the stop-gap arrangement.
Taking the PPP’s apex leadership as well as the allied parties in confidence, the Prime Minister has directed the Cabinet Division to issue the notification appointing Malik as Advisor to the PM on Interior Affairs.
“The Division is most likely to issue the notification any time from now,” the sources added.
The government reacted to the Supreme Court’s interim order in the dual nationality case swiftly as the Interior Ministry is pivotal to the prolonged war on terror. Besides, law and order is one of its paramount functions, the sources added.
The PPP government allocated Malik the Interior Ministry as soon as it took over after winning the 2008 elections. Since Malik was not a member of the Parliament at that time, the government appointed him as the PM’s Advisor on Interior.
Later on, the PPP leadership got him elected as Senator on 27 April 2009. On the very same day he took oath as Interior Minister after getting membership to the Upper House of the Parliament. It is pertinent to note here that to be a federal Minister one has to be a member of either the house of the Parliament.
Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s second tenure. He later joined the Pakistan Peoples Party and was the trusted lieutenant and chief security officer (CSO) of martyred former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

  1. Mr Rehman Malik, who is a compulsive liar and made a false declaration before the supreme court,, has been reappointed as an Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan after cancellation of his senate seat.

  2. This was not unexpected from the government of Monsieur Asif Zardari who can never find an obedient servant like Rehman Malik.

  3. There is no justification for Rehman Malik to hold a public office and I suspect the court may take a further action by sending this stupid minister to a jail.

  4. Can somebody throw light on the fact that if a person is not allowed and unfit as per law to be member of the parliament and also not eligible to be a minister how come he can be an advisor? Isn't it a clear contempt of the Supreme Court and manipulation of law of the land. I wonder how the parliament and the Supreme Court is tolerating this grave insult to the spirit of the constitution of Pakistan?

  5. Your country Pakistan is a unique and strange country where there is no respect for rule of law. Monsiuer Rehman Malik made a false statement before the highest court of the country that he had renounced his British nationality in 2008. Monsieur Rehman Malik is famously known for mindless chatter. On many occasions he has said something which had no relevance to what was happening at that time.

By declaring falsely that he had renounced his British nationality in 2008 which was a lie he has made himself vulnerable to the law of the land to get a jail sentence.

    • He is so indispensible because he was involved in the murder of BB. He was her chief security officer when she was killed. Rehman Malik knows more than he says about the murder of BB. He has done a horrible job as a minister. For somebody who is responsible for "law and order", he has done a good job breaking the law by lying to the SC about his citizenship. This behaviour should not be tolerated at any cost or else it will create total chaos. He must be punished.

      • You seem to be an enemy of Benazir, then why r u worried about not catching her murderers.

        • BB's murderers are sitting in the govt. They killed her so that they can get sympathy vote since they couldn't get it on past performance.

          • It was 10 yrs before BB's murder that PPP was in power. You follow weird logic, and have so simplistic thinking. I pity your thought processes. I wonder how illogical thinking Pakistani people are. If people like you think like that, how wud be ordinary people like? I have quite a knowledge of Pakistani politics.

          • Do u know Rehman Malik had developed his career in the lap of another terrible Pakistani military dictator Zia ul Haq. Did u read UNO report which put blame on a…..r…….m….y of Pakistan and mentioned a very high army officer, and pointed at inherent contradictions in Pakistani state.

          • Please don't show your ignorance. What does the rain in China has to do with the price of eggs in Brazil? We are talking about why rehman malik is indispensible. We are not talking about when ppp came in power. Since you want to come across as so intellectually gifted, why don't you try to explain whatever point you're trying to make. And do try to make sense. Take a pill before you write 🙂

          • Since you mentioned murder of Benazir,( and maybe you wud nt have taken pill by that time), that s why I differed with your superficial observations. I discuss with many Pakistani guys and I wonder how illogical thinking you people are! Indian guys always analytical and logical mind unlike you people, always engaging in emotional and subjective discussion on any topic.

          • Whats so superficial about my observation? Please explain without rambling. I know it'll be task for you but try to make some sense. This whole string started because "Pakistani" asked why rehman malik was so indispensible. You have gone on a totally different tangent. Try to stay on the topic. And try to stick with one name. Your ignorance does not change with the changing of the name. One last thing. Since you think so highly of Indians, are you of hindu descent? Just wondering 🙂

  6. Dear Mr Gilani, Sheikh Saadi said; Whoever gives advise to a heedless man is himself in need of advice. Now I wonder what would both of you learn together in the darkness that surrounds your perceptions!

  7. great historic judgment ….in the tradition of justice of khulfa e Rashideen…!

  8. Is there no crime big enough for a Minister to be sacked. The PPP are crooked to the core and this proves. Gilani should also be jailed.

  9. If reman(ufactured) malik didn't open his big mouth in public and the court, maybe he'd get away with his deceptions. I think he's kept his job by blackmailing zardari for ordering the murder of benazir. I wonder if he'll go back to being a barber again?

  10. why courts are picking PPP ministers and Prime Minister only? Rehman Malik is most competent in security issues so should be retained as Adviser. Judiciary, opposition and some media groups are targeting Rehman Malik to get Zardari .
