During the hearing of Asghar Khan Petition in Supreme Court (SC) on Monday, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) submitted the Habib Bank commission report in the apex Court.
According to a private TV channel, a bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing the 1996 petition of Tehriq-i-Istiqlal’s chief Asghar Khan about allegations of ISI’s financing politicians in the 1990 election to prevent the victory of the Pakistan People’s Party.
In the previous hearing of the petition, the court directed Governor State Bank Yasin Anwar to assist it in the case.
The court has directed the authorities to produce the reports of two commissions on the financial scam. The commissions had been set up to investigate the allegations of misappropriation of funds in the Habib Bank Limited and the now-defunct Mehran Bank Limited and their collusion with the ISI to manipulate national politics.
During Monday’s hearing, Attorney General Irfan Qadir requested the court for more time to collect information from the law ministry.
