2,179 booked for keeping illegal weapons

The district police registered 2,179 cases and arrested 2179 criminals in a drive against illegal weapons during the last five months.
The police recovered 17 Kalashnikovs, one machine gun, 79 rifles, 125 guns, 1814 pistols, 71 revolvers, 08 carbine, two mousers, 25 daggers, one knife, three grenades, 178 magazines and more than 21,000 bullets.
Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen said that team work was essential for good policing and crime prevention and detection. He said that all professional police officers ought to work without any fear and any pressure with dedication, justice and commitment.
He said that crackdown launched against illegal weapons in order to rid the city of crime and criminal elements should be further intensified.
The CCPO ordered full-fledged crackdown against proclaimed offenders and court absconders involved in heinous crime, and directed the Lahore police to evolve effective strategy to nab criminals involved in murder, dacoity and kidnap for ransom.
