Two-stroke motorcycles and rickshaws are the most inefficient vehicles in complete burning of the fuel and contribute most to emission of air pollutants in the environment, experts say.
The major pollutant from a two-stroke engine is carbon monoxide (CO).
Its presence in the environment causes a number of respiratory diseases and other illnesses.
None of the locally assembled rickshaws meet the standards fixed by Pakistan Standards Quality Control Authority for smoke emission.
An Environment Protection Department official said that about 35,000 two-stroke rickshaws and motorcycles ply Lahore roads.
