LAHORE – Members of the provincial assembly (MPA) on Monday lambasted Punjab Minorities, Social Welfare and Women Development Minister Kamran Michael who miserably failed to answer questions of lawmakers during the Punjab Assembly (PA) session. Michael, replying to queries of MPAs during the question hour, repeatedly got confused and members expressed their dissatisfaction over poor answers submitted by the department.
Observing confusion of the minister, PA Speaker Rana Iqbal asked the minister to come to the House with complete homework to ensure comprehensive answers to members for their queries and supplementary questions.
Michael gave a dismal performance and could not satisfy MPAs. The minister even admitted in the House that he did not have knowledge of things happening under his nose. Responding to a question of opposition MPA Zobia Rubab Malik about details of Rs 50 million spent on women development in 2008-09, the minister had no satisfactory answer. Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) MPA Mohsin Khan Leghari drew attention of the House on the point that salaries are always paid from non-developmental funds on which the Michael again looked clueless and could not give a satisfactory answer. At one stage, he even said that the remaining funds had lapsed but in official documents, the funds were utilised.
