Ranger among eight killed in fresh violence

At least eight people, including a cop, a robber and two women, were killed in various incidents of violence across Karachi, police said on Thursday. Per reports, three members of a family were killed for honour in an area near Madina Colony in Shah Latif police precincts.
Shah Latif SHO Sajjad Haider said the three members of a family were killed by unidentified men. He said the victims were identified as Sohail, 24, Shahnaz, 25 and their two-year-old son.
He said the family hailed from Multan. Haider said neighbors told police that the couple had fled Multan after marriage. He said police suspected “honour” was the reason for the murders. Separately, a sub-inspector of the Pakistan Rangers was killed by unidentified men outside his house near Madni Masjid, Korangi Sector 50-C. Officials said Rangers SI Abdul Hameed Chachar, 40 was standing outside his house when the armed men sprayed bullets on him.
Meanwhile, two men who had sustained serious bullet wounds during an attack on a car near Mateen Centre, Tariq Road, succumbed to injuries.
The Ferozabad SHO said three people were injured when unidentified armed men sprayed their vehicle with bullets. He said the injured men were taken to a hospital, where they were identified as Anwar, Naveed and Fahad. He said Anwar and Fahad passed away at the hospital on Thursday.
In another incident, a woman was killed in Mawach Goth in Maripur police precincts. Duty Officer of Maripur police station said unidentified armed men barged into a house near Maryam Masjid in Mawach Goth and killed Haleema, 27. The reason behind the murder could not be ascertained, he said.
In another incident, an alleged robber was killed in an encounter with Shershah police.
The local SHO said a police party intercepted a suspect near Dubai Chowk, Lyari but he tried to flee. When being chased, he opened fire at the police party. The SHO said police retaliated and the suspect was killed in the ensuing encounter. The body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy where the victim was identified as Shahzad, 29.
He said the victim had a criminal record and was wanted in various police stations of Lyari in cases of theft.

CM orders probe

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of a Sub-Inspector of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Abdul Hameed Chachar in firing by unidentified gunmen in Karachi’s Korangi area on Thursday. In a statement here, the Chief Minister sympathised with the members of the bereaved family. He said that such dastardly acts of anti-social and criminal elements cannot shake the determination and commitment of the personnel of law enforcement agencies. The CM ordered an inquiry into the incident and immediate arrest of the killers.
