HEC committee reviews research journals and books

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) sub-committee on education reviewed research journals published in the discipline of education and recommended upgradation of some of these journals during a meeting held here Thursday.
The committee also reviewed books published by faculty members/researchers of various universities and decided that only original and research-oriented books would be considered equivalent to two research papers in X-category of HEC-recognised research journals.
The main agenda of the meeting was to provide recommendations for faculty and institutional development and promotion of research culture in the discipline of education. The HEC has formed different sub committees on various subjects of social sciences, arts and humanities.
The committee also recommended use of new teaching methodologies including frequent use of video conferencing. The PhD dissertations and articles published in research journals would be sent for evaluation to eminent experts in academically advanced countries.
The committee also emphasised frequent exchange of students among universities. It was also decided that annual conference in education would be held.
The committee discussed ways and means to promote the discipline of Education at the university level. The committee members lauded the efforts of Higher Education Commission for initiating a number of useful and innovative programs to improve the state of social sciences and humanities in general universities of Pakistan.
The meeting was presided over by Prof Dr Riaz- ul- Haq Tariq from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, and attended by Dr Rasool Bakhsh Raisani, professor, University of Balochistan Quetta, Dr Neelofer Halai of Aga Khan University, Karachi, Dr Muhammad Ramzan Karakoram, International University Gilgit, Dr Uzma Qureshi of Lahore College for Women University and Dr Parveen Munshi of University of Sindh (through video conference from Jamshoro).
ICG, F-6/2 to mark World Environment Day on June 5: Students of Islamabad College for Girls (ICG), F-6/2 will celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 (Tuesday) with number of colourful activities.
Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with Pakistan Wetlands programme and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will arrange a function at the college. The activities will highlight the theme “Green Economy; Does it include you?” Minister for Climate Change, Rana M Farooq Saeed Khan is likely to be the chief guest on the occasion. Senior Director World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Ghulam Akbar will present the welcome address and a presentation on `Efforts towards Green Economy’.
The students of the college will play performance on `Carbon Footprint’. The other activities will include Tree plantation, art competition, Puppet show, Promos, Book launch and review of Wildlife of Western Himalayan region, review of books by Dean Wildlife Department Arid University and Syed Mehmood Nasir, Book Launch Coffee Table National Treasure of Pakistan and launch of Zoological records.
Students handicrafts made from Recycled Products will also be displayed at the stalls.
