PHC orders re-investigation of 2010 Air Blue crash

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday ordered a re-investigation of the 2010 Air Blue crash in Islamabad, and told the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to refrain from interfering in investigations.
A two-member bench headed by PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the proceeding of the case. Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi and CAA director general also appeared before the court.
During the hearing, Air Blue administration assured the court that it would compensate the victim families with Rs 5 million each. The chief justice ordered that the compensation to victim families be paid through the court.
The defence secretary submitted before the court that the investigation team comprising international experts would arrive in Pakistan on June 13. She said that the licenses of all airlines, including the state-run Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), would be properly checked, while assuring the court that its orders would be properly implemented.
The court also withdrew the contempt of court notices issued against the defence secretary and the CAA director general.
