Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Fazlur Rehman on Sunday warned the establishment not to create hurdles in the way of his party, also vowing that the JUI-F would not accept the supremacy of the United States.
Addressing Islamabad Zindabad conference on Sunday, Fazl said parliament was representative of the people and its decisions must be implemented in letter and spirit. He said there would be no compromise on reopening of NATO supply routes.
He said the younger generation wanted a change and “we have to bring the youth to a moderate path through far sighted policies”.
Fazl said Pakistan had been made a rogue state and base camp for terrorists. He also criticised the defence budget, saying one day’s defence budget was more than the health sector’s budget for the whole year. He said Pakistan suffered losses of more than $70 billion in the US-led war against terrorism.
He said the state institutions must change their role and accept the political forces.
He expressed confidence that if fair and transparent elections were held, the JUI-F would emerge as a force to be reckoned with.
Without mentioning the name of any institution, he said that if institutions wanted to save their credibility, they had to leave politics.
He said Pakistan was rich in resources, but there was a need to utilise the resources in a proper and systematic way.
