Vegetables prices have decreased while fruit prices are still high in the local market as well as at weekly bazaars.
According to a survey, the prices of fruits have increased during past few weeks, while those of vegetables have showed decreasing trend particularly in the weekly bazaars.
A number of customers complained that shopkeepers were violating price lists issued by the local price magistrates.
According to rate list, apples are being sold at Rs 200 per kilogram, bananas Rs 60 to Rs 120 per dozen, melons Rs 20 per kg, water melon Rs 16, strawberries Rs 160 per kg, Mangoes Rs 56 to Rs 90 per kg, apricot Rs 60 to 66 per kg and dates at Rs 150 per kg.
While the prices of vegetables have decreased as tomatoes were being sold at Rs 20 per kilogram, lady finger Rs 36 per kg, potatoes Rs 126 per five kg, bitter gourd Rs 30 per kg, green peas Rs 40 per kg, turnip Rs 24 per kg, red pumpkin Rs 18 per kg, ridge gourd Rs 30 per kg, spinach (750 gram) Rs 12 and brinjal at Rs 10 per kg.
It may be mentioned here that the fruit and vegetable vendors are still selling both commodities on high rates in various areas of the city, giving the reason that there was a shortage of the commodity.
Shoppers said most of the vendors were selling fruits and vegetable without displaying rate list and were overcharging people. They said the rate of weekly bazaar and open markets were different due to these reason. They appealed concerned authorities to adopt proper plan and take appropriate measures to restrict vendors from overcharging.
