Agreements with Tajikistan for electricity import in final stage

Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar Saturday said that the government has entered into the agreements with Tajikistan Government for import of electricity while talks with India and Iran are in progress in the regard.
He hoped that the issue of power crisis will be settled soon.
The minister said this while talking to media persons and speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the installation of 20/26 MVA Power Transformer at 132 KV Tando Muhammad Khan Grid Station.
The minister said that power crisis in the country was the result of the policies and non completion of power projects during the regime of the previous government.
The people of the country could not experience such peak of load management, if the previous government initiated effective policies with completion of ongoing power projects, he said.
Soon after coming into power, he said that the present government initiated numbers of steps to overcome the power crisis.
The government is striving hard to provide sigh of relief to the countrymen by ending the load management after completing all projects launched in power sector, he added.
The minister informed that due to some unavoidable obstacles, the government is not purchasing electricity from China, however, it signed agreement with Tajikistan Government for import of electricity in the country. The negotiations with India for purchase of 100 Megawatts electricity are in progress while a team will proceed to Iran on May 28, 2012 for purchase of electricity.
About increase in electricity tariff, the minister said that main reason of increase in electricity rate was hike in fuel price in international markets. About outage of power except load management, Syed Naveed Qamar said that high usage of energy during current scorching summer season was also one of the reasons of interruption in power supply.
Responding to a question, the minister said that PML (N) leadership has now become confused due to public welfare polices of the government and it was the reason that it is hatching conspiracies against the government and its allied parties.
The PPP and other allied parties of the government are facing these conspiracies with patience and soon all undemocratic acts will be foiled with the support of the masses, he said.
About joining of Mumtaz Bhutto in PML (N), Syed Naveed Qamar said the situation will not affect the popularity of PPP as he (Mumtaz) has no strong political strength in the province.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar inaugurated the newly installed 20/26 MVA Power Transformer and hoped that by its installation, the people of Tando Muhammad Khan district and its adjoining areas will get uninterrupted power supply.
The Chief Executive Officer Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Muzaffar Ali Abbasi while briefing the minister informed that an amount of Rs 60 million has been spent for installation of 20/26 MVA Power Transformer in 132 KV Grid Station Tando Muhammad Khan. He informed that Rs 195 million have also been spent for completion of power supply schemes in 216 villages of the district while Rs. 50 million have been utilized 144 schemes of LT and HT lines.
About the performance of his organization in 12 districts of the province, Muzaffar Ali Abbasi informed that Rs 631 million are being spent for establishing of three more grid stations in Qasimabad, Jam Sahib and Shaikh Bhirkiyo while power transformers have been installed in 10 other grid stations including Kohisar, Tando Adam, Tando Allahyar, Umerkot, Nawabshah, Latifabad, Qazi Ahmed, Sakrand, Daur and Tando Muhammad Khan with an amount of Rs 550 million.
Later, Syed Naveed Qamar also inaugurated the road schemes at Village Nago Shah and Village Chatoo Magsi, power supply schemes at Village Ilyas Ghirano and Village Ibrahim Sahthio.
