Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said under a specific program, the Prime Minister’s House will be converted into a state-of-the-art institution and work in this regard was underway for the last six months.
Speaking at a function to mark the ground-breaking and inauguration of six developmental projects in Islamabad, Gilani said it was his desire to see a smooth transition of power from the present government to the next elected government in a democratic manner.
The prime minister said continuation of the present government was necessary to ensure continuation of developmental activities for the welfare of the people. He said it would be for the first time that a democratic government would present its fifth budget.
He said the PPP government believed in democracy and would go to the masses on the basis of its performance and it would be for them to re-elect or reject it.
PM Gilani has said that now only people will change the governments.
He said gone were the days when governments were changed through conspiracies and the present government enjoyed popular mandate.
The prime minister said they welcomed healthy criticism and took it as a means to reform.
“Great people always have a large number of enemies,” he quoted a saying.
He, however, said some people who were pushed out of the PM House had not learnt any lesson. He asked them to respect the sanctity of people’s power.
Gilani said he believed in politics of decency and it was for the first time that there was not a single political prisoner in the country.
He said the government took a number of steps for the uplift of the masses and initiated various development projects in health, education, transportation and science and information technology sectors. He said under a program, work will be started for C-15 and C-15 sectors in the capital.
The prime minister directed CDA to initiate a power plant project for generation of electricity for the capital and assured full cooperation in this regard.
He announced establishment of a girls’ college and hospital in the rural areas of the federal capital.
