3 naval officers court-martialed in PNS Mehran attack

A military court on Monday court-martialed three Pakistan Navy officers in the PNS Mehran base attack incident, Express News reported on Monday. According to details, an investigation team comprising police, navy, air force and intelligence agencies and found Base Commander Commodore Raja Tahir, Commanding Officer Israr and Air Base Security Officer Lt Commander Absar irresponsible and negligent of their duties.
The channel reported that the court had handed down sentences a few days ago in line with Pakistan Navy laws, adding that details of the extent of their punishments were not revealed, except that they were not given a jail term. As many as 10 terrorists had managed to storm the naval base in Karachi on May 22, 2011. They held off security personnel for 17 hours and destroyed two P3C Orion surveillance aircraft in the process.

    Btw, what does "punishment" mean?. that sounds like a school kid being reprimanded for misbehavior. These guys should've been handed heavy sentences.

  2. What of the general impression that the attackers had inside support and they had complete information about routes to important installations like that of air surveillance aircraft? This symbolic punishment conveys a different picture.

  3. The root cause of the attack was that all our major bases are located within Civilian Area.They need to be removed 100 km away as common in rest of the World.
