The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday sought a complete report from the Lahore Services Hospital superintendent about the health of Sheikh Afzal, the main accused in Punjab Bank scam, and directed the authorities concerned to ensure Afzal’s treatment. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the Punjab Bank scam case. Afzal’s counsel informed the court that his client was sick and the officials concerned were not taking due care of his health. The CJP remarked that while the trial of a person was underway, it was the responsibility of the officials concerned to provide him proper treatment. Afzal’s lawyer said that his client was being kept in chains even in the hospital, to which the CJP said that such issues pertain to security, and there was no need of blackmailing anyone.
