Adele can’t be stopped. She has picked up two prizes at the Ivor Novello song writing awards – but missed out on two more top trophies. The star was named songwriter of the year and her song ‘Rolling in the Deep’ was the most performed work of 2011. However, Ed Sheeran’s ‘The A-Team’ beat ‘Rolling In The Deep’ and Florence and the Machine’s ‘Shake It Out’ to be named best song musically and lyrically. The annual awards – in their 57th year – are highly regarded within the industry because they are voted for by songwriters and composers. Accepting her song writing award from Annie Lennox, a tearful Adele said she had learned from the reviews of her first album. Adele joked that she never expected it to be a hit. But the song has helped the north London singer become the world’s biggest pop star, with global sales of 18 million for her second album ‘21’. In April, the British songstress recently revealed that she’ll release a new song in 2012. “There will be a new song, probably coming out at the end of the year,” Adele told French radio station NRJ. “But then it depends how quickly I write some other new songs.” Adele was quick to shoot down claims that there might be a new album to accompany the 2012 single. “It won’t be for a good two years … I have to write it. It takes a while.” However, rumour has it her label XL is planning to release a special edition of her chart-topping, record-breaking album with a few new tracks. Could this be what Adele was referring to when she mentioned that there would be a new song in 2012? Or could the singer be referencing the rumoured track she’s recording for the upcoming James Bond film, ‘Skyfall’? Even if Adele doesn’t release a new album for a few years, ‘21’ shows no signs of fading away any time soon. Adele’s 21 has never left the Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 in its entire 63-week run.
