PESHAWAR – Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan is holding a six-hour sit-in outside Khbyer Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s building today (Sunday) against government’s inability to stop frequent drone strikes in tribal areas and increasing prices of essential goods.
JI Amir Syed Munawar Hassan, former Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Provincial President Professor Ibrahim Khan, senior leader Sirajul Haq and other central and provincial leaders will participate in the sit-in that will continue from 10am to 04pm. JI, Islami Jamiat Talba and Shabab Milli’s workers had been marching in the city with a mini-truck decorated with JI flags and posters of the leaders urging the people to join the sit-in.
They were chanting anti-government and anti-America slogans and demanding immediate release of Mumtaz Qadri, the accused police cop arrested in Salman Taseer’s murder case. They were making announcement for the scheduled sit-in and asking the people to join them for pressurising America to stop drone attacks in the tribal areas where innocent civilians had been killed.
The provincial government had allowed the JI to hold the sit-in and security measures were also taken to avoid any untoward situation. An area in front of the provincial assembly and Peshawar High Court building had been specified and the road would be closed for traffic during the sit-in but there would not be any big issue regarding traffic as the sit-in would be held on Sunday, a weekly holiday.
